4 Important Things before Choosing a Travel Health Insurance

4 Important Things before Choosing a Travel Health Insurance
Health insurance is very important no matter where we are, especially when we travel far away from home. Medical cost abroad can be very expensive. And with very limited knowledge of the travel destination, it will be dangerous if we get into an accident there and we are not properly insured. That’s why it is necessary to have this insurance. But be careful when choosing travel health insurance. Make sure you consider these following things:

Your Insurance Must Have Wide Network Coverage
Insurance network can really limit our movement, but that is the fact that we cannot change. If you have a plan to travel, find out first whether your insurance has in-network medical service in your travel destination. If they don’t and the cost of out-of-network medical treatment is more expensive, it is better if you try to find a temporary health insurance for your travelling needs.

Proper Evacuation Plan
Evacuation plan must be in the coverage of your insurance plan, especially if you travel to remote or dangerous area where medical personnel are limited. The evacuation plan also must include a proper transportation to the nearest hospital or to go back to your country.

Find Out the Length and Activity Covered
Every travel insurance will have different coverage length. Purchase one plan that fits your travelling schedule and don’t spend a day without being insured. You don’t know what’s going to happen and you want to be prepared.
Your insurance plan also must have an emergency plan. But you also have to make sure if the emergency plan covered the activity you are going to do. Some insurance company will refuse the claim if the accident is happened due to dangerous activity such as mountain climbing or surfing. So make sure you purchase a plan that fits your activity. Health insurance that covers dangerous activity can be more expensive, but it will definitely save your money in case of an accident.

Travel Health Insurance is Not the Same with Regular Travel Insurance
Remember that most travel agent only cover regular insurance for cancelled trips or lost luggage. They don’t cover the medical insurance. But no matter what happens, you must prepare yourself with good travel health insurance. Therefore, find out first if your travel agent can provide temporary medical insurance and what kind of service they can provide you. If they can’t, contact your insurance company and ask them if they can provide you with travel health insurance.
